I couldn’t exist the lure of alliteration.

May I also note that I’m writing this Thursday, August 18th at 11:20 p.m. and there was a creepy guy walking on my street and so if I am murdered, this will be the last thing I ever wrote. So YAY.

Let’s talk fall. If you know me at all, you know that I basically shrivel up and die in spring and summer but I really come to life in the cold months. And since I live in Texas, “cold” means anything below 80. Did you hear how we broke our record for consecutive over 100* heat days? We’re on like 18 days straight or something, and I want to die.

Which is convenient for the serial killer currently stalking my street.

Anyway, let’s get on with this week’s finds! A friend/reader (hey, C!) asked me to do a post about affordable trends for fall. And let me tell you, I am all about affordable. I just bought a Thierry Mugler perfume for $25 at TJ Maxx. Word. Let’s talk about how to make your fall wardrobe work for you, for cheap!

1) Layers

That’s my secret. Lots and lots of layers. Have a sundress you love? Throw it over a pair of tights, add a cardigan, and you are fall-friendly. Like this:

Say you have a super cute sundress. Like the Falling Braeburn Print Dress.

So freaking cute! Year-Round!

Then add some fun blue tights (Only $6.50 at Old Navy!!)

These are the cheapest I've found and come in several fun colors!

Then add a comfy cardigan, like this super cute one from Old Navy

The color is "Golden Arrow." LOVE IT.

And if you’re still wanting more, add a classic belt on top of it all. I love this Woven Canvas Belt that’s only $6.80 at Forever 21!!

This wardrobe addition is under $10 and will not disappoint.

Add some dangly gold earrings and maybe some bangles and you are fabulously on trend for fall! Not to mention warm and comfortable!

2) Functionality

Look for pieces that can be worn in more than one way!

This Pleated Ruffle Shirt would be cute on its own, under a cardigan, belted, under a blazer or jacket, or even over a long-sleeved tee.

I love it so much! And it's on sale!

Or, perhaps you’re like me and you’re absolutely obsessed with flannel, plaid, maple syrup, beards, and anything else reminiscient of lumberjacks. This is for you. It’s cute on its own, buttoned up, cute unbuttoned over a graphic tank or a tee. Cute under a blazer, cute under a frilly cardigan to mix masculine and feminine…

I will buy my future husband so much flannel. It's the perfect material.

I’d also recommend a classic pullover sweater. This one adds a little flair with a fun, bright color and a peek-a-boo knit that I’m obsessing over.

Cute over a tee or tank or even a fun button-up for a preppy look. Fun under a jacket, fun belted... you get the drill.

Don’t forget you can throw a sweater, cardi, or tee over a dress and make a shirt/skirt combo. The sky’s the limit!

3) Sales

I know it sounds obvious, but seriously… shop sales! Similarly, know when it’s worth it to buy cheaply made clothes and when splurging will serve you better. Always, always shop sales. I can’t repeat this enough.

In my opinion, it’s better to buy a quality-made shirt worth $50 for $30 than it is to buy a $25 for $20. If it’s something fitted or that you will wear ALL. THE. TIME. then a splurge sale (Splale? Salge?) is the answer. My favorite Salge/Splale places are: J.C. Penney’s, Palais Royale, occasionally Macy’s and Dillard’s. My favorite cheapie-cheap places to scour sale racks are Target, Marshall’s, and TJ Maxx, and Charlotte Russe.

Accessories (for the most part) should be cheap! I lOVE Charming Charlie’s and Forever XXI accessories. I, of course, have nicer jewelry as well, but you can’t beat paying $1 for earrings!

Anyway, I hope this was helpful and gave you some fun, new styling ideas and ways to stretch your wardrobe and your budget.

Falling for You,
Kaitlin

P.S. If you’re reading this, I didn’t get murdered.
